How Long Will Your Salesforce Implementation Take?

Sales reps say six to eight weeks. People who've done it say "it depends". This estimator shows what it actually depends on: answer five questions about your team, data and integrations, and get a phase-by-phase timeline you can plan around.

1. How big is the team that will use Salesforce?
2. Which Salesforce products?
3. What shape is your existing data in?
4. What does Salesforce need to connect to?
5. How much customization?

Your estimated timeline

9–13 weeks (≈ 2–3 months)

Standard scope. Custom fields, automation and integrations — where most SMBs land, typically $20,000–$75,000.

  1. Discovery & planning

    1–2 weeks

Map your sales process and pin down the decisions that stall projects later — pipeline stages, what counts as a qualified lead, who owns the data.

  2. Configuration & build

    4–7 weeks

Set up Sales Cloud: pipelines, fields, automation and reports, plus your custom fields and workflows.

  3. Data migration

    1 week

Import your contact lists, dedupe, and verify a sample together.

  4. Integrations

    1 week

Connect and test email & calendar — often run alongside configuration, which can shorten the calendar.

  5. Testing, training & go-live

    2 weeks

User acceptance testing, team training sessions, and a supported go-live.

How this estimate works

The ranges come from typical SMB implementation projects and match the bands we publish openly: a quick-start setup runs 4–6 weeks, a standard implementation 8–16 weeks, and complex multi-system projects 4–9 months. Each answer you pick adjusts the phases those projects are actually made of — discovery, configuration, data migration, integrations, and launch.

The phases are shown end-to-end, but real projects overlap them — integrations are usually built while configuration is still underway — so your calendar end date is often earlier than the total. What the estimate can't include is the biggest real-world delay: decision-making. Projects stall for weeks when nobody agrees on pipeline stages or what counts as a qualified lead. Settle those before you start and you'll beat these numbers.

FAQ

Salesforce timeline questions, answered

How long does Salesforce implementation take?

For most small and medium businesses: a quick-start setup takes 4–6 weeks, a standard implementation with custom fields and integrations takes 8–16 weeks, and complex multi-system projects run 4–9 months. Team size, data quality and integrations move you between those bands.

What slows down a Salesforce implementation the most?

Decision-making, not technology. Projects stall for weeks when nobody agrees on pipeline stages or what counts as a qualified lead. The second-biggest delay is messy data — cleaning scattered, duplicated records adds 4–8 weeks before migration can start.

How long does it take to integrate Salesforce with an ERP like Business Central?

With a proven connector (such as Rapidi for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central), plan for 2–4 weeks of setup, field mapping and testing — usually run alongside configuration. A fully custom API integration takes 3–6 weeks.

How long does data migration into Salesforce take?

Clean spreadsheets import in about a week. Migrating from another CRM takes 2–4 weeks for export, field mapping and reconciliation. Scattered or messy data takes 6–10 weeks, because cleanup has to come before migration.

Can you speed up a Salesforce implementation?

Yes — mostly with decisions, not shortcuts. Document your pipeline stages and data rules before the project starts, name one internal Salesforce owner, and phase the rollout. Overlapping phases (integrations built during configuration) also shortens the calendar.

How much does Salesforce implementation cost?

Roughly in line with the timeline: quick-start projects run $5,000–$20,000, standard implementations $20,000–$75,000, and complex projects $75,000–$300,000+. The estimator labels which band your inputs fall into.
