Gemini in Google Workspace: Plans, Pricing, and What Replaced the Business Add-On

The Gemini Business add-on is discontinued — Google folded Gemini into Google Workspace's base plans in January 2025, so if you're searching for the $20 add-on, the answer is: you don't buy it anymore. Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Meet, the Gemini app, and NotebookLM now come included with Workspace Business plans, which run $7–$22 per user per month (annual, list) after Google raised base prices ~$2/seat to cover it. Here's what each plan actually includes, and what "Gemini Enterprise" means now (it's a different product than the old add-on).

Workspace plans and what Gemini you get (list, annual billing)

PlanPriceGemini included
Business Starter~$7/user/moGemini in Gmail/Docs, Gemini app access
Business Standard~$14/user/moEverything above + NotebookLM Plus, Gems, Vids — the sweet spot for most SMBs
Business Plus~$22/user/moHigher limits + more security/eDiscovery

Prices are Google's US list for annual commitments; month-to-month runs ~20% higher. If your renewal repriced upward in 2025, this bundling is why — you're paying for Gemini whether you use it or not, so the honest advice is: use it.

What happened to the add-ons

Until January 2025, Gemini for Workspace was sold as Gemini Business ($20/user/mo) and Gemini Enterprise ($30/user/mo) add-ons on top of Workspace. Google discontinued both and moved the capability into the base plans. Anyone still quoting you an "add-on price" for Gemini in Workspace is working from an outdated price sheet.

Naming trap: Google later reused the "Gemini Enterprise" name for a separate agent platform (starting around $21–$30/user/mo) aimed at companies building AI agents across their data — that's a different product for a different problem, not the old Workspace add-on reborn. SMBs on Workspace don't need it to get Gemini in their inbox.

Is the bundled Gemini actually good?

For the daily-driver tasks — drafting and summarizing in Gmail, cleaning up Docs, formula help in Sheets, meeting notes in Meet — it's genuinely useful and the marginal cost is now zero. Where it lags is deep multi-step reasoning work, where the standalone chat products compete hard; our full comparison is in ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini for business, and the case for going Google-first when you run on Workspace is in Gemini for Business.

Gemini (included) vs buying ChatGPT Business alongside

The real 2026 SMB question. If you're on Business Standard, you already have AI in your documents and email. Adding ChatGPT Business at $25/user on top only makes sense when a team needs the strongest general assistant with shared GPTs — many companies run both, Gemini for in-document work, ChatGPT for everything else. Start with what's bundled, measure what's missing, then pay for the gap — not the other way around.

Getting value from what you're already paying for

Google's own data and every rollout we've seen agree: bundled AI goes unused without deliberate adoption. Pick three workflows (inbox triage, first-draft proposals in Docs, meeting summaries), turn them into team habits, and audit usage after 60 days. Frequently asked questions

Can I still buy the Gemini Business add-on for Google Workspace?

No. Google discontinued the Gemini Business ($20/user/mo) and Gemini Enterprise ($30/user/mo) add-ons in January 2025 and folded Gemini into Workspace base plans, raising base prices by roughly $2 per seat. If you're on a current Workspace plan, you already have Gemini included.

Which Google Workspace plan includes Gemini?

All current Business plans include Gemini at list prices of roughly $7 (Starter), $14 (Standard) and $22 (Plus) per user per month on annual billing. Business Standard is the SMB sweet spot, adding NotebookLM Plus, Gems and Vids over Starter.

What is Gemini Enterprise now?

Google reused the name for a separate agent platform (from roughly $21–$30/user/mo) for companies building AI agents across their data — it is not the old Workspace add-on. SMBs on Workspace don't need it to use Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Meet.

Do I need ChatGPT if my Workspace plan includes Gemini?

Start with what's bundled: Gemini covers in-document and inbox work at zero marginal cost. Add ChatGPT Business ($25/user/mo) only if a team measurably needs the strongest general assistant or shared custom GPTs — many companies run both, but paying for the gap should follow measuring it.
